MPG's of Mike's blown 3.2...
OK, the MPEGS of Mike's blown 3.2 can be accessed here, via FTP:-
host: bender.annenberg.edu user: pelican password: 911rules Just look in the 'pelican' directory and the files are MOV0001, MOV0002 and MOV0003 (.MPG). OR, HTTP to http://bender.annenberg.edu/pelican/ and click on the appropriate filename. I'll post some MPEGs up of the Oz Pelican Drive Day when they become available! Ciao, Merv. |
HOLY CRAP!
You're telling me that "WydRyd" does that too? Jesus... You've gotta take me for a spin in that thing... soon! :D |
Adam, if we find a quiet straight, I'll let you DRIVE her :D
|
|
OK that's enough. The 100 degree weekend is over - time to get back to that turbo swap!
Looks like the 915 may be a bit more stout than it's given credit for. |
holy criznap is right. four second 0-60s seem entirely believable. gotta love that squat on acceleration.
did i mention holy crap yet? db |
Nice !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I must play it 100 times!!! I NEED MY CAR!!!!!!!:D
|
Adam, you can only have a drive if you PROMISE to turn around and come back :D
RarlyL8, Protomotive use the 915 g'box all the way up to Stage 2 power levels (approx 485HP) with the appropriate aftermarket clutch and pressure plate etc. I'm sure you won't have any problems. LOL @ Bento! It's probably more like mid 4s, but still, you're looking at 993tt/996tt acceleration there for a bolt-on kit  |
for comparison...
Here's my NA3.2 doing about a 5.7 or 5.8 0-60 run (not timed, but I have a pretty good feel for it at this point) Remember, this is an NA 3.2! http://bender.annenberg.edu/pelican/NA32911.mpg |
Who's Mike, anyway?
|
Cool clip Kurt, thanks for sharing :D
'Mike the mechanic' (Mike Rombotis) is a good friend of mine in Canada who has a blown 3.2 Carrera which he put together himself! He uses the Protomotive Motronic software only, but the rest of the design is his own :D Top guy if I must say so myself. He's the dude that corrupted me into the same conversion on my 3.2. He's quite stealthy on this board, so hopefully he'll tune in and reveal a bit more about himself and his crazy ride (soon to be TT'd, but I'll let him explain THAT project) SmileWavy |
Now THIS is the kind of entertainment we need more of on the board!
Soooooooooooooo just how do you post this kind of stuff? I'd like to join in the fun as soon as my swap is done and the engine broke in. Can you use regular VHS camcorder video or must it be digital? |
Wheeewww....Peeeel OUT.....looks like some rubber was donated to that street from those tires. ;) (the sound was pretty cool)!
Merv - I'm kinda afraid to see what your car will look like taking off like a jet rocket!!! :D |
Who can post an audio for me? I can e-mail it to you.
Thanks |
LOL @ Sarah. I'll post some MPEGs when I get someone game enough to film me from the rear
RarlyL8, you need to have a digital stream of video footage. It certainly helps to have a digi video camera than can store a few seconds of footage for transfer to a PC. Converting from VHS to a digital source is a pain in da'butt. Most digital still camera's have the capability to film 10-15seconds of video in digi-form for transfer to a PC for editing etc... 10-15 seconds is WAY too much for a 0-60 sprint anyway :D Two-oh, e-mail me the audio at merv@team.telstra.com and I'll do it for you tonight. |
Hello everybody! merv, thanks for posting the mpegs, as you know, I am computer illiterate, and I couldn't do it without you.
Also, thanks for the kind words! you helped out quite a bit too, you mustn't forget. I'll be sending Mervyn the new mpegs when I finish my twin turbo conversion! Mike 86 Carrera (soon tt) |
We're ALL hanging out in anticipation to see the 3.2 -> 3.3 twin turbo monster from hell Mike http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...amingdevil.gif

I haven't seen the footage yet, I need to go to work to get the speed up, my cable speed is too slow at home.
Short story... I remember being 13 years old at a party with lots of funky chicks and older guys. This was back in the 70'2. I was sitting out on the kerb talking up this girl (yeah..started young) and this guy with a Ford Falcon GT Phase 3 says he's leaving. He hops into his car and the sound of this V8 was awesome. Anyhow I guess he saw me gawking at his ride. He pulls up about five feet away from me and then plants his foot on the loud peddle. For what seemed like minutes he had them tyres smokin and clouds of white smoke enveloped us. I assume that he had his other foot on the brake. He releases whatever has holding him them and slowly starts pulling away although I couldn't see a thing! Again for what seemed minutes we were just covered in that funky smell of burnt rubber and thick white smoke. It was so cool. It was like being in some seventh heaven where everything was on go slow (well except for his car). The rubber left on nthe road told me he had to work in a tyre store!!! Man...I was hooked on HP after that. That is most vivid memory of a burnout. I've been to the drags (both participator and spectator) for many years but that will always stand out to me. Just thinking about it brings goose bumps to the skin. Live on HJ Junkies. More posts about your cars guys. There's lots of us lurking here who love this stuff and only wish we had the money and expertise to do what you guys have done. Cheers Mark Old fart living vicariously and reminiscing;) |
