I know this is like a “right oil to use” question but lost and need some veteran ideas.
I drive my 911 with real sprit, though it is a daily driver in Northern CA.... Running Goodyear F-1’s do not like them at all. Tires are hard as rock, do not grab well at all, even on hot days. Need some stick and a better ride. Also, the size I am running is in question. Geometry is a big question.... Stock 89’ Targa with 70k miles - Only with a chin spoiler – no rear Spoiler. Running now… Front 205/55z/ R16 Rear: 255/50z/R16 Came from Zuffenhausen with… Front: 16x6J with 205/55VR Rear: 16x8J with 225/50VR Anyone dealt with this? Any ides? Thanks!

Did you get your set up readjusted when you put on the wider rear tires. How old are your tires?. Goodyear F1s are actually quite a good set of shoes.

Was balanced (after) I bought - have had had no issues, though something that works better for the needs stated above -

I reckon your suspension needs tweaking and the wider rear/narrow front are part of the issue.
Our cars apart from lift off oversteer actually tend towards understeer. With wider rears and narrow fronts unless you have tweaked the suspension, that understeer is going to feel more pronounced. Anyway if its just new tyres you want you can´t go wrong with Michelin sports but they are a bit pricier than the Goodyears Last edited by twistoffat; 06-04-2013 at 12:19 AM.. |

I'm on my second set of F1's. can say they get quite hard after repeated heat cycles making them squeaky in the dry and awful slippery in the wet. This however was after about 15k and 3 years

if you're looking to replace your f1s, I've been very happy (on my 3rd summer) with my continental extremecontact dw tires (not dws). They're high performance summer tires, but have (for me) a near-ideal balance of tenacious grip and compliant ride.
I'm running 205/55-16 front and 225/50-16 rear on 7" and 8" fuchs |

I do not know the age of the tires - I suspect they are older, the car sat a lot...

here's a link explaining how to decipher the tire's date code:

I have the Conti's as mentioned below as well and they are very good tires...good compromise between high performance track and street tires. I have 6's and 8's

255's may be too wide for the 8's. Most seem to run 245's on them. Just sayin'.
