73.5 trans in a 79 911 cv joint question

so I'm getting ready to put my 73 trans in my 79 911 only to find the joints are different sizes. i tried to change the cv ends only to find the shaft diameter is different between the 2 years. my question is what combo of parts do I need to make this swap work? I'm guessing I needed the flange from the latter trans installed in my early trans. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Randy

there are lots of threads about the flanges used in various years. the flange diameters (108mm vs. 100) and bolt patterns (4 10mm bolts/2 pins vs. 6 8mm bolts) and gasket/no gasket change over the years as well as coarse/fine splines on the inner part that goes in the diff. i would pull one flange from each trans and see if the splines are the same. if so you should be able to use 79 flanges on 73 trans. don't remove both flanges from one trans at same time or the inner diff parts can get misaligned (the flange bolts keep the diff parts aligned).

but the 73 will be for a mechanical speedometer and your car will have electric.

I have a set of flanges that I believe will do what you need to do. If you still need these, email me.
