964 C2 Targa A/C dead, Help!
 

I was driving along in my 1990 C2; A/C roaring nice and cold ( well, as cold as you can get for one of these ) when I had to make a radical evasive turn to avoid this woman t-boning me. She missed but the air went dead. I don't know why that hard move would have caused this but it seems to have. So far I've checked the fuse, there is plenty of freon, the climate unit has been varified as being fine. There are no lights that come on with the climate unit. Any ideas? It's not even summer yet and the heat is here already, so humid.

Step 1:

When you turn on the AC does the compressor clutch hub engage with its pulley?

WOT microswitch bent into open position?

Stopped blowing or stopped blowing COLD..?

When you turn on the AC does the compressor clutch hub engage with its pulley?

Step 2:

When you turn on the AC does the blower motor push air through the vents?

did you hear any water sloshing around ? Floor wet?

I mean the A/C is deader than a door nail. There is no power at the CCU when you push the off and on button, the snow flake, nothing. The fuse is fine and the CCU unit has been verified as being 100% not to blame.

No water, no wet floor.

Time to read the Fault Codes

Shop Manual section D 80/87

Fault Code readers, even the latest OBDII type, do not typically "read" any fault codes other than the ones of EPA interest or designation. Ancillary or auxillary functions such as A/C, ABS, etc, often incorporate a method for reading fault codes embedded within the ECU firmware.

Hold 2 buttons down as your switch the ignition on, and watch the blink sequence of a light/icon, for instance.
