Engine statistics

Hi,

I did some playing around with a new tool. I’m now able to read out engine statistics and log them into Excel. Below you find some data collected:

The data is from a 964 engine that is in my 911 sc. All graphs are from the exact same run with every time a new variable measured against the engine speed (RPM).

I do not know yet how to read it all, but I thought it might be interesting to share.

Thanks,
Arnoud

Arnoud - interesting data graphs but you did not tell how you extracted the data. I assume this is a read pin or connector on the ECM?? And how different is your ECM to a 84-89 911?

please advise your data collection setup, what is the time stamp frequency?

Paul of 928 ECU repair wired the diagnostic bus from my 964 Motronic. This way I'm able to connect it to the interface tool. It is a 3.6 conversion, I do not have the wiring with the standard diagnostic plug.

By the way this is his older model, the new models are much nicer.

So with the interface connected to the diagnostic bus of the Motronic and connected to my laptop running his diagnostic software I can basically read out all information the diagnostic bus can provide. It can read fault codes, read and log live data and for testing purposes you can put in some input signals to test switches, idle stab, injectors, etc.

The time stamp frequency is the sample speed of ECU, which is about 200 msec multiplied by the number of variables you measure. e.g. every value is a command taking like 200 msec.

For example if you measure like 5 variables: MAF, IDLE, LOAD, TEMP, CODING..

Then it will take 200 msec to measure MAF en to communicate it to the interface.....

400 msec IDLE

600 msec LOAD

800 msec TEMP

1000 msec CODING

1200 MAF

1400 IDLE

Etc…

So the time stamp of my graphs is a bit less than a second (measuring 5 values).

Measuring only 0ne value will make it 5 times faster.
