not turningover sometimes

I have a '72 targa w/74 2.7 motor that runs off of 2 small batterys. checked the charge it's 12v .If it sits it will turn over and starts up easily ,but if I turn it off and try to start if again I hear a clicking sound and it won't turn over to start and I have to bump start it . I thinkin it's the solenoid ? any other ideas before pull it out.

Yep...solenoid. Sometimes if you hit it with a BFH, it will free up and start.

If you disassemble starter and clean with brake degreaser spray ... and clean off all of the rust and corrosion, and reassemble with plenty of moly grease, the problem will sometimes disappear!

Dirty, corroded battery terminal and ground straps, trans-to-body ground straps can also cause same problem!

Yeah Warren, but a BFH is more fun!
