Bumper Guard Refresh?
Is it possible to get the Bumper Guards renewed / refreshed on my Porsche 911? I have a 1987 and they look rough. One has a cut on it and the other is badly weathered. Any ideas? These things seem really expensive.
Thanks! |
For the one that is cut, you should just look for a good, used replacement. To improve the appearance of the weathered rubber, there are a few products out there to restore the color and softness of the rubber - Back to Black, Wurth Gummipflege etc.

BrianS - I have a few in good condition that I'd gladly part with for a low but reasonable price (have no idea what they're worth). Shipping is 12 lbs each, and that's on you. PM me if you need them.

Mine are in good shape cosmetically but one had been bumped at some point and it's shape is not 100%. I had been looking around and pulled the trigger on a set from eBay based on the seller linking them here. When they arrived the looked like they had been sitting in the Arizona desert for 20 years not to mention the cuts and the one had had a sticker applied to it for some time. Clearly mis-represented. Anyway, I'm rambling now.
I took the two guards and slathered them in vasoline and let them sit in the sun for an afternoon. That got them most of the way there and then a couple of good coats of Gummi Phledge got them as good as they are going to get. The shine is back but there is not much that can be done about the cuts. -J |
