De-tailed 911

I've always preferred the 911 without the whale tail, so after about 3 years, I finally switched it out. I also added a 1" spacer to the rear wheels - they now fill fenders much better than before.

It looks much nicer now. I should have done this right after I bought it. ....it's an '87 3.2 Carrera.

Before ...

After ...

After...

Next up, need to lower the car about an inch or so.

Cheers,
lgb240

And you made 700 on the tail if you decide to sell it.
Good job

according to me It looks better without the tail .... well done!

I do not like the spacers ... too much for me .... wheels must stay inside the fenders!

The wheels are inside the fenders - with room to spare - angled photo is a bit of an optical illusion.

Beautiful car...I like the way it looks without the tail. I find the color and the black trim make a great combo.

Looks great. Now you just need to reset the rear ride height . I was amazed how much the rear end raised when i took mine off. I am very jealous of your E30 Touring by the way.

Funny, I just bought a tail. For me, color has a lot to do with the appearance of a carrera "tailed" 911. Not as much with a duck.

BTW, i am also jealous of your e30 touring. Damn US importers.

Good, and I like Coupes without tails. Great lines. Have a rear view handy? Nice car. Just my opinion, I think lowering the rear about 5/8"-3/4" is all that's needed.

Sportier with the tail. First thing people comment about my car is that "...it has the tail and everything..." Staple of the 911. But your car looks great either way.

Agreed, but with Coupes, it's not bad IMO. Targas need something back there, so I'm glad miine has a tail. Will add a duck eventually, and just swap back and forth now and then!

With 7" wheels back there, looks OK to me! Actually, it looks like your fronts may have "skinny" spacers as well! Could just be the photo/camera, but that's about how my 7s look up front.

It is a very nice car! But I must say, I think it looks better with the tail. Also now that the wheels stick out, it looks like a funny car from the 60's. . Or a cartoon car. I don't think Dr Porsche would like it. Nick

Lookin good! Don't stop there, next remove the front one too and lower it all around and it'll look even better..

Maybe get rid of the shark fin too. Those go better with the tail and not so much without IMO.

Is it legal to go without the front plate as well? If so, take that off too or tuck it up tighter so it doesn't hang out there.
