Nippon AC compressor rebuild

I decided that I had noting to lose in trying to rebuild my AC compressor. It seemed pretty straight forward. It was until I went to split the case. It took a bit more force then I expected and when it came apart so did the shaft and pistons. The question I have for the experts is now that the pistons are out is there some trick to getting it back together. The way they seat on the shaft with 2 "bearings" makes it quite a puzzle. I can get the bottom bearings in and on the shaft but then the top bearings do not fit and the tops are just held in by pressure so it is a real PITA. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here is the factory technique:

Rebuild method for Nippondenso 10P15C A/C compressor

Also, Mr Griffiths of Kuehl sold me a rebuilt unit that was reasonably priced and that he believed was in fact a new unit.
