Koni Strut Concern

I am working on swapping my suspension out for some new equipment and ordered the Red Koni 86 1942's for the fronts... When I put one into the strut housing and tightened the gland nut, I noticed approximately 1-2mm of vertical play (the lower portion of the shock was visibly moving). I checked to see if the gland nut was fully tightened and it was. I used the proper spanner wrench to tighten as well. Should this 1-2mm of vertical play be a concern? I thought it would be fully locked in place but to no avail. Has anyone else had the same experience? TIA

The gland nut should tighten down on the shock and hold it firmly, usually there is 1 or 2 threads showing when tightened to the specified torque. (Very tight)

Therefore if you have no thread showing and vertical movement something is wrong. Can you compare the new inserts with the old ones?

Do you have the right gland nut? The Koni inserts have a different gland nut than Boge. Not sure what you replaced.

That's why I asked... I figured it should have been tightly snugged down in the housing. The inserts I am replacing are Dr SD) early insert from koni and has a different mounting style and Ps SD) original. The gland nuts came with the shocks. I'll see what I can figure out...
