1979 sc backfires ALOT
and doesnt go over 3000-4000 rpm i took her around the block and she did the same thing as in the idle stance it might be a vac leak etc i just want to know the possible causes and ways to fix it thanks

Not enough info.....
So it was running great and all of a sudden this happened? Have you done anything to it recently? CIS i assume? Got a pop off valve in the air box? Did it get dislodged?

Pete is most likely correct a loose pop off valve will cause the problem you're having. There could be many other things also.

could be:
bad control pressures bad WUR no power to the WUR clogged WUR screen/return bad thermo time valve(TTV) making it rich air leak pop off valve as mentioned cracked air box if no pop off valve timing advance not working fuel fuel filter bad fuel igntion plugs, cap, rotor you are really asking for a lot and giving us very little to do it with.
