clutch helper spring
Hi,
last friday, my helper spring snapped..1km from home... My wife picked up a new one at the OPC today. What is don't understand is that is seems impossible to pry the arm with the spring into place. It always becomes stuck with the SSI heat exchanger... What am I doing wrong??? André |
Put the spring on so it looks like this
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1370896850.jpg Then pry the lever rearward with a screwdriver till it SNAPS into this position (don't get your fingers in the way) Do this with the cable disconnected. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1370897065.jpg |
you can see in the photo the factory head exchanger has an indentation so the spring can clear it.

Check you put the spring back on the right way. Follow Pete's advice and snap the spring rearwards. This part of the procedure is not clear in a lot of the literature I read. Ed

Problem solved!
Pictures from Pete were very helpful. Thanks a lot André |
I was going to replace the helper spring and related bushings and hardware but I could not figure out how the adjustment lever and throwout lever came off. I guess it is just a press fit but it just says remove in the Bently Manual. I did replace the clutch cable but stopped. What is the method for pulling this off? I guess it is harder when you are laying on your back with only 18" of clearance. I had trouble getting any leverage to pry it off. The trans does shift better with a new clutch cable and bracket but I think replacing the other rusted parts would help.
