SC door anatomy help needed

I have a '79 coupe project. The PO disassembled the doors some 20 years ago and I have the pleasure of putting them back together. Does anyone have a photo tutorial of how to mate the regulator with the motor, etc? The door innards are a mess, chock full of wires and parts. I did numerous searches but didn't find what I was looking for. I wonder if I should take the whole window frame out along with regulator, motor and figure it out from there rather then inside the door.

Btw, should I invest in the Bentley? Thanks.

Yes remove door frame and window glass. You have to remove the felt on the outside aspect of the door, as well as the molding to get it out. If you don't you'll tear it up (don't ask me how I know) when pulling the metal track attached to the glass out.

References....get yourself copies of: 78-83 Parts manual (exploded views); 84-86 parts manual (some of the diagrams are better, plus you can see what was improved over the years and possibly upgrade some parts); the Bentley manual; Read posts here on the window regulator. Its very fidley to get it in/out.

I recently completely disassembled, cleaned and reassembled my doors left and right. With the window frame out you can remove and de-gunk the door latch. Well worth it.

Send me a PM and I can Dropbox (or Google Drive) you the 84-89 Bentley manual (it's close enough to the SC), and the 78-83 and 84-86 Parts manuals. They help a ton.

Yes.....get the Bentley.
I don't have power windows but i believe you can get them out with the window in.
Unbolt the regulator, drop it down, unbolt the motor, then remove the regulator.
Just removed mine today. It's a PITA job.

Misery loves company

Neal - I am currently getting close to finishing my 78 SC which has taken forever. I made a number of notes/diagrams when I took the doors apart to paint them (which I did myself), have the Bentley manual and some exploded views. Even have one measley photo and left bolts in where they came out. I also kept the parts separate (R vs L) and had things fairly organized even though it was over 2 yrs ago when these things came apart. I also live not too far from you, in Boyertown PA near Pottstown. I am right in the middle of reassembling the doors if you want to come over and look at mine. You can email me at quack916_aol.com, substitute @ for _.

BTW, you don't need to unbolt the motor to get the regulator out.....I put mine back in w/ the motor bolted in situ....It's a little bit of a Chinese puzzle but it can be done - hook a temp 12V batt up to the leads to move the reg arms around while you're doing this. Fiddly but doable.
