Clutch Noise - Help
Hi have a 69 911T,
Since installing rebuilt gearbox, engine, new clutch & thrust bearing (but didnot replace pilot bearing) took for a test run today (before the rain) - can hear a bearing noise coming from clutch. Sounds like thrust bearing. The noise exists driving in all gears, but if I engage the clutch whilst driving - no noise. Sitting idling out of gear - no noise, sitting idling with clutch engaged in gear - no noise. Noisiest when accelerating, de-accelerating in gear ( engine breaking) noise! Rev the engine in gear engaging clutch no noise, rev engine out of gear no noise! Can't face pulling the engine out again, so the cars been banished to dunces corner, so it can have a good hard think about what's it's doing wrong & fix itself! BUT ANY SUGGESTIONS MOST WELCOME. ![]() |

How can you be certain it's a clutch noise if it only occurs while you are driving? If it occurred only when you depressed the clutch pedal and went away while accelerating/decelerating in gear, I would agree with you. I don't think it's clutch issue from your description.
If you put the car in neutral and release the clutch while the car is in motion does it make the noise? Also, same question with the car at rest.

Starting to think it's gearbox! Noise only happening when driving .
