Stopped this afternoon just to eyeball an 86 slant nose Turbo I spotted sitting on a dealer lot. Not great, not bad cosmetically but def. not a garage queen judging by corossion on Fuchs & engine space. Black paint pretty good but not original.
Has a very wide body with a wedge shaped rocker panel thingy, decent after-market front spolier. Salesman points to engine and says "This car has 470 horsepower" Right says I. What is stock HP and is slant nose desirable (I don't care for the look) other than adding $5K NADA value? Oh, asking price is $39900 w/96K mikles. Dealer is a respected oufit but not P car experts. HP and value guesses appreciated. Ted So Fla 86 Carrera

282 HP in US, 300 HP in ROW. 470HP is certainly possible, depending on modifications.
I have no idea what that would be worth. I personally can't stand the slant nose/boxed rockers look, but some folks think it makes the car worth more, but only if it is a factory job. Tom |

The slant nose would make the car worth more. But if it has been repainted and modified with body mods, this would reduce the value.
Good luck if u decide to buy. Last edited by Tinton; 10-13-2002 at 05:01 AM.. |

I am sure there are more expert 930 addicts on this site but I would say the slant nose only adds value IF original and steel!.
Any body kits unless done will detract from price. First things to look for if he bosts 300+ HP are a larger intercooler as without that the engine will detonate! literally!. Also aftermarket exhaust would be another external sign plus maybe twin plugging (2 distributers). If it has done over 60K miles it will be due for an engine overhaul and if near 100K would be on its second possibly!. Also it would need an aftermarket clutch to handle that power!. Without documentation it is all 'hot air' as far as I would speculate. ANY engine modifications past stock would carry documentation and care otherwise the car is worth less than stock. To ask 40K for an old slant nose I would expect to see at least 40K of receipts for the past 10 yrs esp. if power modded!. Just my 2 cents Rgds Ben PS being an 86 makes it a 4 speed tranny which is less desireable. You can pick up a nice 5 spd 930 for between 35-40K good luck!

hmmmm....460 hp... you're talking extensive mods...twin plugging, bigger intecooler, bigger turbo, custom exhaust, EFI....if car doesn't have that = it's all BS
If it does, it's worth 32000$ at it's best

i've never been overly fond of the slant nosed 930s... for some reason they always looked to me like the quintecential "80s Miami Vice drug dealer car"... the standard 930 has aged much better.
as far as the price goes, i think for $39k you should be able to get a nicer example of a 930 for that price... sure, it may not have 470 horsepower, but it'll still be plenty fast and in better shape. just my 2 cents. |

Don't believe ANY HP claims put forward by used car salesman! Unless he has dyno sheets to back his claim, his got his hand on it. I strongly doubt that 470HP is achievable on a CIS based 930. ImagineAuto modify 930's to the limit and they typically see the CIS max out at 450HP.
Find out exactly what mods have been done to the car and post back

Several slantnoses lately on eBay. They low mileage ones are going for low to mid 30's.

No worries, I'm not going to buy this overpriced beast. I was on an errand and happened to see it on the lot and felt like testing an unsuspecting salesman. I'll go by Sat. and snap some pics to post.
OK, I did have a momentary flash that it might be a cost effective way to move into a new horsepower bracket if I could do a straight trade + cash....it is near the end of the month; best time to wrangle with dealers. My personal 5 minute mini PPI revealed a not so well cared for car. The oily tire black was a dead giveaway at the quickie dealer detail job. I'm too attached to my pristine Black Targa to trade her off for a Miami Vice looking hog. Thanks for the responses. Cheers Ted in So Fla 86 Carrera Targa Blk/Blk w/lots of nice touches |
