Which connector is positive and which is ground on this thermostat?
Guys,
I'm replacing the stock oil cooler fan thermostat switch on my '87 Carrera with a BMW thermostat that turns the fan on at 194F. However, I can't tell which is positive and which is ground. Does anyone know?

Doesn't matter, it's just a switch that goes from open to close at 194 degrees.

Ground terminals.......
Andy,
That switch is a continuity switch or an ON/OFF switch controlled by the temperature around it. As a common practice, this particular type of switch is used on the ground wire. Either use it for ground or power only but never use it for power and ground at the same time. If you connect one terminal to a (+) and the other to (-) wire, you'll have a short circuit when the switch closes and blow the fuse as a result. Think of this switch as a typical toggle switch. Sounds like I can connect to either one but not both. I checked my oil lines after the thermostat and both are hot so it is not the thermostat. The oil lines and thermostat are fine. It then must be the aux cooler fan that is not coming on. I checked the fan with 12v it is good so it must be the thermo switch. I will let you how the R/R and goes.
