O/T Moderators I have a Question!
Dear Moderators I will like to know how and who is responsable for choosing the topics to stay longer or to be move right a way? I have seem some important topics been move rather fast and others stay DAYS with less responces? How does it work?
Im just Curious |
Well, the moderators are volunteers, and there's no fixed schedule for us to even come and visit the board, let alone review every thread. It's kind of catch-as-catch-can.
Obviously, there are a lot of threads that continue on this board that are not strictly 'on topic.' Personally, when it comes to moving the topic to the off-topic area, I try to judge threads by the following criteria. The sooner in this list that the answer is yes, the easier it is to keep it in the forum. Is it related to Porsche 911 technical issues? Is it related to the Porsche 911? Is it related to automotive issues? Is it of specific interest to people who like 911's? Is it generating interest from the board, without provoking conflict? If a thread only fits in with the second half of that list, but is provoking discussion (and not because guys are arguing heatedly about it) I'll generally let it sit for a while before I move it to off-topic. I don't like to see classified/for sale postings in this section, but guys looking for a fair valuation of their car blurs this line a little. The recent thread about sport biked seemed to generate enough involvement so that it seemed fair to keep it there for a while. I'm a little tougher on political topics because they tend to provoke arguments that have nothing to do with Porsches. But Wayne hasn't set up any formal system, and there are no rules, strictly speaking. I think this is the best way to do it, but it obviously is never going to be even close to air-tight. |
Juan:
I'm not a moderator, but I think I know how the "topics" work: whenever a topic/thread gets a reponse it goes to the top of the page. So, popular threads stay near the top while less popular threads find page 2 and beyond. I like this approach as it is solely based on the community's responses - sometimes silly threads are popular while some technical threads drop down the page. I like the "popularity" approach as opposed to some type of "thread judge" (edit: I know OT threads are moved - by "judge" I refer to someone who would determine which on-topic threads should remain near the top!) Wayne sometimes posts a "sticky" thread as an announcement that will stay at the top regardless of replies . . . until Wayne chooses to remove it. Best, Kurt Edit: "Quickdraw Jack" beats me to the reply yet again! :) |
Thank You Guys:)
