My "Porsche moment of the day"

So I'm driving my bone stock bronze metallic SC coupe with the chin spoiler but no tail this evening and pull up to the outer left hand turn lane at the stop light. To my left in the inner turn lane is one of those new Cadillac CTS-V coupes; black, tinted windows, passenger side window is halfway down and I notice a lady with blonde hair and a fellow probably in his mid 60's driving.
Light turns green, we go around the left hand corner and then he NAILS the caddy. 4 seconds later he's probably doing 75 in a 45. I'm driving like a 50 year old that can't afford a ticket. Traffic light not quite 1/2 mile ahead.......it turns red catching the caddy. I pull up next to him with my window down, look over and he is all grins.

I grin at him and say "it's still a cadillac"......his grin became a smirk.

The 911 is very sparky - it is the standard against which all other cars will compete. Love that Caddy though. Nice to see Skunkworks-type application to car design.

The 86 yo owner of the plant where I work drives a Caddy. I drive a Porsche, a BMW, and an Acura. He drinks more Makers Mark, and I (hopefully) get more tail.

My buddy just picked up a CTS-V and that thing is a beast. I've tracked one for about 4 hours and I was shocked by solid it was at the end. Brakes felt great. No fade and still pulling like a freight train.
I would not race stop light to stop light against one in my M3.

IMO, they look like turds - which such a high rear and funky design overall, but I am biased on teutonic machinery anyhow...

I wasn't going to post this and "steal thunder" but last night I was bringing the Brother in Law for a ride in the '78 and experienced something similar.

Parked at a 2 lane stop light, tastefully "modded" and very heavy breathing (for what it is) Cobalt SS pulls up next to us, guy a few years younger than me gives me a stink eye... Ahead of us is a newly paved, tightening switchback

We both leave the light easy, the kid slams the hammer down/tires spinning, I start running into the gears (5k shifts) as the corners approach he hits the brakes and I slip through them having a great time. BIL has nails dug into door handle

Next light...kid pulls up. "HEY MAN!! Sick Porshaa!" I gave him a thumbs up.

And we wonder why others think P-car owners are douches.... BTW, that Caddy is sweet, nothing wrong with grinning in that car.

Cadilla CTS; Jeremy Clarkson describes it as having been “designed by someone who only had a ruler”. I always chuckle whenever I see a CTS.

Mashing the gas pedal can be a hoot...
But anyone (ANYONE!) can press a gas pedal all the way to the floor. Big woopie poo.

Being able to brake well and get on the power early: That is a skill that shows some ability.
Much more interesting.

The American muscle car guys hate imports, Ford vs Chevy debate continues for eternity, all Japanese cars are "ricers" to everyone else, old 911s aren't "refined", people who drive Italian cars wear ugly gold medallions around their necks... Every car guy thinks his car is the best and stereotypes exist. In other news, the sun rose again today and water is still wet.

It is very flattering that people with new cars want to measure up against our 30 year old cars. I don't think any new Cadillac will do well against a new 911 and our 30 year old 911s will run circles around 30 year old GM cars. When I first moved to the US I bought a '87 Corvette (with stick shift). Nothing compare to my '86 Carrera.

They do more than go fast in a straight line.....my wife has one and it will humble a BMW in the twisties too. Great cruiser for trips etc.
I just drive my old SC, more fun.

This indicates to me that you have never driven a car with serious power . . .

Thanks for displaying the P-car stereotype
