The comedy continues - so now 10 min into my first ever spark plug change on my '83SC, and I see this hose dangling by cylinder #2. I can see the other end only to the left-most rear top corner of the engine bay - any ideas? Sorry, the pic is rotated 90 counter-clockwise from my view of the engine bay...

i think that plugs into a nub on the shroud around the WUR. very close to where you picture.

Plugs into the side of the airbox. There is a nipple for it right there. Runs from the canister on the right engine wall.

Hose
I had found a hose disconnected in that area of the engine.
It might go here: ![]()

And the winner is.......
I had that car for several months to install SSI headers and repair the massive oil leak from the engine. The Fiberglas shroud does not have the metal fitting for the breather hose coming from the carbon canister to connect. Otherwise, I would have connected it back.
Schumicat is the winner!!!!!! Tony Last edited by boyt911sc; 06-22-2013 at 12:02 PM.. |

sorry, new winner...
Sorry - Schumicat is *not* the winner here - the WUR had all connections including vacuum hose present. The airbox, however, had a unfilled port on the left side. I've hooked up the hose in question to the airbox as suggested by flat6pac, the *actual* winner!
So, as long as we're on the topic - what role does this hose play in the system? Haven't fired it up yet, accessing/replacing the plug in cylinder #6 gave me fits, and a sore back. I've purchased what I hope is the right attachment for the factory plug puller, and will see how things go tomorrow when I get the last plug in. Thanks for your replies, guys, huge help! Quote:

i didn't say it was on the WUR. I said it was around the WUR. my 82 definitely has a braided hose like that going to a nub on the shroud. but there are a number of such hoses on the car.

Thanks
Really appreciate the reply as I am trying my best to understand the intricacies of these cars. Thanks!

Tell me more...
I've attached the hose to the nipple on the airbox as you suggested. Only thing - I think the hose disappears in a chase on the left (driver) side of the engine bay. Is this correct? And what is the purpose of this hose? Car started and idled ok (its been high idling of late, but that's another issue).
Thanks. |

just went to add quart of oil and i'll be damned, the nub is on the airbox. not sure why I remembered it being on the shroud. getting older and it has mercifully been several months since I last did engine install. the hose is part of the gas tank ventilation system.

There is a nub on the shroud too on the earlier cars, mid 70s behind the fan, left of center inside of #1 runner.
