Rebuilding front calipers

And the question is: Chrome or red?

I bought the red kit but am in no hurry so could have the outer half chromed

What about Stock Cadmium plating. I am not a fan of red on anything other than Brembos. Stock are just too small. I just did a complete rebuild on all mine as well and went with black. Wish I had gone the cadmium route.

If you ask my personal opinion, I want either black or silver and keep them clean. No chrome, not even red. 15 years ago, I would like red and yellow.

On my 88 the PO had painted the stock calipers red. When I rebuilt them I powder coated them in silver. My thinking is if you don't have Brembos or some other originally red calipers painting them red is just fake. Since you have them split why not do the cad plating?

Cadmium looks great but you can't get it anymore (In the U.S. anyway). However, Yellow Zinc is available to get and looks very similar to the Cadmium and gets my vote.

High temp silver.

I like mine brake dust dirty black.... shows it's a real driver!

Zinc or black

I had PMB do my aluminum Brembo caliper upgrade in Black anodize(instead of gold) to appear like M calipers were still there. The yellow zinc looks great on the Carrera calipers. There is a picture on "What did you do to your 911 today thread" or something similar that has some pics of the zinc calipers from Eric at PMB.

But red makes you go faster! Or stop faster, I forget which :)
Black or silver.

I had mine zinc coated at a local plater. Not a great shot, but you can see the caliper showing through the Fuchs on my 87. I think it looks pretty OEM.

If you go with the cad plating, be sure to bolt them back together using throw away nuts and bolts to stop the machined surfaces from being plated, leave them original, and be sure to fit new O ring seals (actually they are flat rings)
