targa latch broken? (pics)

i was having trouble with the front clips not grasping enough and wind noise coming in the front. i noticed that some of the plastic pins that hold the frame together were cracked so i got the parts to replace those. while looking closer i believe i discovered the culprit. please check these pics and see if the latches look broken to you, if they are fixable, and if they could be responsible for my wind noise. thanks. | ||

the pics are of the front of the targa top where it latches to the windshield frame. the housing in which the latches turn seem to be cracked. is this common? can i remove these and somehow fix them? has anyone done that? i see the parts on pelican for this only go to 1989, will they work? would like to try a repair as they are about $150.00 each. thanks.

do you think i could bend them back to shape and then slide some steel pipe around the housing to reinforce?

Darryl, I'm having the same problem on my 1978 targa. In my case the slotted socket in which the "key" is inserted to lock down the top has actually split in two. I believe the only remedy is to replace the latch itself. But, this is certainly the culprit regarding the wind noise. Kevin
