Problem with turn light -71
 

I've got problems with the turn light.

Symptoms:
Lights turned off = using turn light handle, the headlights for right side will turn on instead of the blinker

Lights turned on = right indicator light for turn light is constantly on (no blinking), nothing happens when using the turn light handle

The problem occurred recently, maybe after driving on a shaking road. The turn light handle is a "new" unit, I think the problem must be somewhere else, relay or light switch?

Someone have a electrical diagram for the turn light, light switch, relay, handle?

I was hoping for a specific diagram for the light switch and maybe the relay.

32 is the headlight switch. 50 is light relay. Yellow is low beam, White is high beam. 48 is the flasher relay. 30 is the turn signal switch. Bk/W/Grn is feed from flasher relay to turn signal switch. From turn signal switch, Bk/W is left signal, Bk/Grn is right signal.

Did you check and clean the ground contacts? The common ground in the in the lugage compartment, near the head light, might be the cause. Remove the nut, clean all the contacts to bright metal, including the brass base of the thread and reassemble.

Major part of electrical problems in our old Porsche is caused by bad ground contacts.

I've found only this two relays in front of my car, is the cylinder one for the blinkers?
It has the number: 911-615-109-01 (listet as general relay at Pelican store).

Its the square relay, the 2 x 21W refers to the wattage of the 2 x 21W bulbs in circuit when you indicate left or right. You can pull the relay and pop the top off to check the contacts are OK. Make sure the correct wattage bulbs are in place, good connections and good earths for all housings. Thanks alot. Someone knows where to buy the relay? I can't find it on Pelican shop.

I've got a "new" relay. Still have problem.
1. When light switch is off: Turn light flashing, but right side also flash the right side dimmer light.
2. When light switch is on: Turn light not flashing, right "green arrow" turn indicator always on.

My next step is to take off the steering wheel and check the connections to the turn light handle.
There must be a bad connection to the right dimmer light circuit somewhere?

I just took my rear tail light assemblies out of my 71T and noted that each of the assemblies has a ground strap attached to the bumper. As another poster mentioned, I would check and clean all ground connections before removing other components.

The only common circuit for dimming light and turn signal light is ground. Did you check and clean the the grounding bolts/nuts by taking then apart? Just a visible check is not enough.

I think I've found the source to the problems tonight. The muffler have touched or been in touch with some metal that has burned the wires.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1374184575.jpg

It is always good to know what the exact cause of a problem is. Only then a proper repair is possible.

Make a note of the color code used for the replacing wiring. If you don't, Murphy will find you some day.

I don't care about the color codes, the cables are easy to measure out. I've made a good repair last night with all new wires, and made sure it will not happen again. This was not my first checkpoint by the way, first I've looked at the main light switch, the relay, the cables around the fuse box. I think they all are places where the circuits can potentially get in touch with each other by faulty wires.
