Oil pressure switch,

I have a 72S with a leaking oil pressure switch. My question is why do I have a oil pressure switch? It is on top of the breather cover. My S dos not have a warning lamp for oil pressure. What dos this switch do? Or do I have a warning lamp? I thought all I had was a brake lamp and a alt lamp. Thanks Wayne

Wayne,

if you remove that switch ... I think you will find markings of 'G' and 'W' terminals after you do a bit of cleaning! There isn't any oil pressure to monitor under that breather cover!

It Should be a Thermo-Time Switch, and it has two Yellow wires going to it ... BRILLIANT COLOR CODING, because reversing the wires can short out the #51 lead to the starter solenoid, burn up the ignition switch, and cause an under-dash electrical fire!

The Thermo-Time Switch is part of the cold-start [non hot-start, below 112°F, actually] circuit.

on mine (but thats a 70) it is actualy red/black and yellow. As the terminals are different size its not to hard to keep them apart. I had a lot of worries after rebuilding the wiring loom and not finding a w and a G on the switch.
I have different peculiarities on my wiring, part conforms to the 70 diagrams, part is like the 71 diagram. It seems that they sometimes just took what was in stock in Stuttgart, some 30+ years ago.
