Another "What is This?"
 

I finally got around to begin changing the fuel lines in the barnfind SC yesterday. In the process I removed part of the interior again to gain access to the tunnel and I found what appears to be a micoswitch of some kind. (I will try and post an image later but it's in a very difficult to get to area.)

The switch is at the front of the tunnel, about even with the pedal cluster pivot. It is a small black box with an arm on it about an inch long. The arm points towards the pedal cluster, but there is nothing on the pedal cluster or gas pedal that would actuate the switch - if that's what it actually is. (But it "looks like a microswitch and feels like a micoswitch")

Anyone have any idea what this once did? I say that because it's obviously not doing anything now and hasn't for awhile. There's nothing to actuate it.

Sounds like a pre-vacuum boosted brake switch.

It does look a lot like that. A whole lot like that. The switch is a long way from having anything around to contact it though. It's just "there."

Not sure I understand your term "pre-vacuum boosted" in this context though. The SC brakes are vacuum boosted of course, and the brake lights have been pressure-switch activated for a long time before that. I didn't mention the car; should have. 1982 SC

Simply put, the earlier cars (without boosters) used a mechanical switch like this to activate the brake lights. The pedal clusters are different between the two eras.

Vacuum boosted brakes started in 1977. Prior to that, the switch above activated the brake lights.

Pictures would help determine what you have.

Could be a switch for Cruise control

Ding, correct answer. Cruise control clutch switch, turns Cruise Control off when clutch is depressed. Goes into the tunnel just to the right of the gas pedal, PIA to access.
