Can anybody tell me about this 911SC (NC)?

Hi all

After being a Porsche-lover for a number of years, I finally decided to pick up an air-cooled model. I thought an SC would make a good entry-point into that world and managed to pick up this SC from NC, although I don't live in the States. Don't have much in terms of history on the car, except that its been recently painted and interior updated and that the engine is stock and the car runs great (my agent did the homework).

Does anybody recognize the car?

Why do you want the SC when you have a GT2? I'd just drive the GT2 around all the time - maybe even sleep in it so I didn't have to spend any time away from it.

Car looks nice. What color is that ?
I think the rear decklid would need two shocks to support that tail. if you remove it it the original shock might work.
AC compressor is a York. I think you are somewhere hot, ou will want to think about replacing that.
Check your drain channels on the sunroof, and replace your sunroof seals. Your representative should have seen the dirty water marks from the drain holes i have indicated on the pic. Those channels can collect gunk and rot. Sunroof seals are an easy fix.

Great input, thank you. It's a custom gray satin paint job, not sure if it has a specific name. On purchase I was told the AC was upgraded, however you are correct, we have a desert climate and I need something strong. Is there a suggested unit I should be looking at?

Thanks for the input. I would like to remove the whale-tail, but my worry is getting the paint to match since its a custom paint job (satin gray). The info I got on the AC compressor is that its already an upgrade, but you're right, we have a desert climate and I need a strong AC. Any recommendations?

oh you probably have only one deck lid shock. I ordered 2 for my 82 and when I was putting them on I found I only needed 1 so look before you buy And I live in NC. Get it and have fun.

I would think you would need a complete AC system from either Griffith or Keuhl to get something effective for you. Also your car has a black interior so you should think about a dash cap to keep the dash crack free.
Both are active on tech so I would reach out and see who provides a good solution for you. The stock system is not going to cut it.

A good paint shop can match the satin grey, and you can find a tail on parts F/S. otherwise a good looking car.

Note you need a rear deck lid lower seal. Make the dealer pay for this, they should not have sold you the car without one !!!

Nice catch! Went through Pelican but not sure which is the right part. Is it the Turbo Tail Base Seal (930-512-215-00-M136) ?

I agree, but I'd rather make sure they buy the right part and ship it with the car

My deck lid has the Tea Tray (not the turbo one you have) and there are two shocks on the drivers side and one on the passenger. Both are easy to fix and Pelican sells them. Might as well do the hood shocks too as I bet they are shot.

Actually, it looks like the PO has apparently already upgraded your AC system. The compressor you have has a Keuhl label on it - not sure which one it is - Sanden maybe? I think yours would have been a York compressor which aren't very good. I would ask Keuhl about your AC system and he can guide you as to what you should do.

I'll ask - the description of the vehicle before I bought it said "R134a refrigerant" - not sure what that refers to

R134a is the newer refrigerant. R12 is the older stuff they don't make anymore. If you have an upgraded Keuhl system consider that a bonus. That's worth $2-3k out of your own pocket right there. Porsche didn't quite get the A/C right until the '90s.
