What does "took a poop" consist of? I repaired mine in my '74, but give me a clue about your problem.

When I pull the lever up it doesn't raise the idle.

There is a plastic widget connected to the lever that pulls on a fitting on the throttle rod in the tunnel. This plastic part (sorry, I forget the proper name of it) is rather 'soft' and tends to break with age. Do you have a copy of the PET so that you can look it up?

In order to replace it, you access the thing through the oval hole seen just below the black throttle lever handle in the photo. It is a fussy job to reach in there and change the part, but at least it is a cheap little piece of plastic.

Anyway, this broken bit is no doubt your problem.

Edit: Sorry. I think I recall that you have to remove the bolts that hold down the hand brake assembly so that you can tilt the assembly to the right and reach in there to change the plastic widget. The oval hole is where you adjust the position of the stop on the throttle rod - in order to achieve 3,800 rpm with the throttle lever up and engine hot.

Yep, that's it. I unbolted the e-brake lever assembly and was able to ease it out enough to see the plastic coupling on the throttle lever had disintegrated. This does not look like a fun chore.....

Good luck. I found two additional broken ones in the bottom of the tunnel when I replaced mine.
