1966 911 Throw out bearing help
I have a 1966 911 with original Motor and Transmission.
I have about 650 miles on a newly rebuilt motor. Before the rebuild the tranny operated very well and quite. The shop and I decided to reuse the TO bearing as it looked, sounded and was operating OK. (possible mistake) The tranny shifts great and seems quite but after about 50 miles I started hearing a noise when the clutch is pushed in, it goes away when let out. I am assuming it is the throw-out bearing. Being new to 911 I have a couple of questions. 1. Will this noise get worse and what damage can be caused if I drive. 2. Can this be eliminated by an adjustment ? 3. To replace the bearing does both the motor and tranny need to be removed? 4. If it needs to be replaced is the correct bearing available? I have searched and it looks like there is only a newer bearing. I am about to take the Car back for the oil replacement and adjustments and I will address with the shop but wanted to try a learn more about this so I can be a little prepared. Thanks for any help and suggestions. Bob |

66 TO bearing available from Pelican 901-116-081-11 $148. I would drop engine and tranny as unit.
