Which is the correct 930 Transmission fill/fluid level checking plug
I had been noticing small drops of transmission fluid occasionally on my garage floor so decided to check my transmission fluid level on my 81 930. Per the pictures below, my understanding was that plug A was the filling/level checking plug. So I opened A and surprisingly a lot of fluid came out. I thought I would have to stick my finger in to check the level. Either A is not the correct plug, or the previous owner filled with the car not leveled or through one of the other ports on the other side which could be higher. Is the correct plug to check with A which is on the left side of the tranny, or one of the others (B-E) on the other side?

Plug a is the correct fill point. the other ones, are for the shift rod detents, there is a spring and ball behind them. They will pop out if you try to remove them.

Well, I wish I found this 11 year-old post an hour ago! So, I too "just wanted to check the level" and I removed plug "E" and it popped out under spring tension and some sort of metal sleeve partially popped out too. I just pushed it all in and snugged it up. Is there anything more to it? Like does any kind of "alignment" need to be done? Thanks!

Your good putting it back, it’s the reverse tension detent. The fill plug is on drivers side “A”
