Fuel Line Replacement - What am I missing?

I've read all the threads on changing the fuel lines in the tunnel (1982 SC). But they all imply that the lines remove easily after everything is disconnected and the grommets removed. Not so mine; they're resisting my best effort to pull them out. So am I missing something here or are these just being stubborn?

It is possible they are hung up a bit at the front. However, the OEM lines are made of a flexible pipe, like PVC, that should flex around most hang-ups and slide right out in most cases.

Which way are you pulling? From the rear?

Oh definitely from the front; they obviously can't come out from the rear.

It may be they're hanging up around the steering rack from tension in the bend there. But the hang-up feels "solid," if you know what I mean.

Maybe this ->? In my '87 there are metal tabs or strips that were spot welded to the top inside of the tunnel at both ends (fore and aft) a few inches in from the grommets. If they're on yours you'll have to bend them out of the way. They have a small plastic sleeve to protect the lines from the sharp edges on the tabs on them too BTW which may slip off during the removal process.

I actually pulled mine from the rear. Perhaps that's your issue?

Your 82 SC should have tunnel lines like this.............

They are Polyamid, a type of plastic tube, and with the bend at the front it would be hard to pull them back to the rear. It can be done, but easier if you pull them out at the front. You may find you still have the bent tabs at the front and rear of the tunnel in place. Otherwise, they should pull to the front without too much effort.

Its best with an assistant helping to guide the tubes thru. Did you add a line so you can pull the new replacements back thru the tunnel?

Mine pulled very easily from the rear. No issue and no odd bending....

I fed mine through the front to the opening for the shifter, then pulled them out rearward through the shift coupler access.

You might also consider changing the fuel check valve at the outlet side of the fuel pump. The metal tabs keep the fuel lines neatly pressed against the side of the tunnel and from getting tangled into the clutch and throttle cables.

Didn't have much issue pulling out but in was more difficult as well as reconnecting the fuel lines at the rear were a pain in the rear.
