Jacking up a 912 same as 911?
Can you jack up a 912 under the engine with a floor jack and a piece of wood/rubber like you do a 911? Is the sump strong on the 4 like the 6?
Thanks, David |
I'd recommend using the jack points and adapter for your floor jack, rather than using the engine and motor mounts to bear the entire weight of the car.

There is some quick maintenance needed by my brother before the weekend and he does not own a jack pad - hence the question.

The chassis is the same* (like 99.9% the same, obviously the motor mounts differ).
This image was posted up in a thread not too long ago. X = Jack points 0 = Jack Stand Support Points http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1373316387.jpg |
So then the motor/sump will NOT support lifting the car to place jack stands?

Sorry - I knew it was oft discussed about 911's, just wasn't sure about a 912.

FYI in his tool kit there should be a piece that inserts into the side jack point location. The piece is made for use with the factory scissor jack, but might could be used with the floor jack in a pinch. Nevermind, I was horribly wrong about that, the factory jack was never supposed to seperate in the manner I described. I happen to have a broken unit and never realzsed it!

For 45 years I have jacked up my '65 912 under the sump then put jack stands under the chassis and have never had a problem, but then it does have the early "solid" engine mounts, not the later rubber-dubbers...
