New G50 Owner (Finally!)

I've wanted a guards red 911 since I was 9. After a long search and my wife finally telling me to @!%$ or get off the pot, I pulled the trigger. Here is my new (to me) '87 G50 911 Carrera.

Now I get the enjoyment of fixing all the little issues that it has. I can't wait. I look forward to each time I can drive it. Just looking at it in the garage puts a smile on my face.

Anyway, just thought I'd say HI.

Matt

Congrats, she looks like a good candidate for a long term love affair. Make sure to put lowering it a couple of inches on your "to do" list as she's sitting way too high!

Welcome. Love those red wheels!

Has anyone ever put a 'wrap' on wheels to change the color, instead of painting them?

I have only had one across 17 years. Pulled over plenty but when you are as old as the earth (to steal a movie line) they are a bit kinder.

Agreed McLaren. She is looking ready to do a Dakar rally currently, but I'm still basking in the newness of owning this car.

Thanks Dublinoh. I've already used the search feature to find a wealth of information and help. Many more searches to come I'm sure.

Nice car, congrats. Nice that the wife pushed you. Trying to convince my wife it is a quality of life investment.

What more convincing would the wife need than stress relief? I always feel so much better after a hard back roads drive.

How about going against the purist grain and adding a whale tail to that bad boy?

When I was a teenager, I thought 911s looked incomplete without the tail.

That has sort of been my dilemma. I always felt that way, also. However, it was hard enough to find a G50 coupe car in Guards Red locally (that I felt good about buying after a PPI), as there don't seem to be that many around. It almost seems rarer to find a car sans tail. Plus, the look just continues to grow on me. With that being said, your '89 is the exact car I was looking for, but I just couldn't find it. It's not like I "settled", though. I couldn't be happier.

I would never modify the existing decklid or front valance. Rather, I would purchase used ones. To REALLY go against the purist grain I was thinking about adding a ducktail The best part is, I've got nothing but time now to decide what I want to do.

Welcome aboard. Guards Red is really the best color. Of course there will be dissention, but that's what makes this place great. )
