How much time to replace dash
 

I have a new dash for my 1980 911SC and was wondering how many hours it take to replace. I realize I (or glass shop) need to remove the windshield, so taking that into account whats the verdict. This forum is great, and thanks in advance.

I would estimate a couple hours. It doesn't require much however I had to fabricate mine due to the larger vents from the '86 dash I used. This estimated time is based on after the removal of your windshield. I removed the windshield myself but had a professional re-install it.

Two hours sounds about right. A small ratchet set is usefull for getting at the bolts, and you will need the proper plastic clips for the top of the dash.

Is this the $1000 replacement dash or is there more resonable product out there that dosen't look it's form a flea market. I have a cracked dash and cracked windshield.I would like to fix this in one shot. I just can see paying $1000 for a dash.

The dash I got was in very good shape(1/2" crack at defroster vent) for I think $140.00 on e-bay.

Got a question for you guys that have replaced a dash.
Picked up a rare [blue] dash which is crack free, but the vinyl 'extensions' around the edge are rock hard, brittle, and badly wrinkled up. These 'extensions' cover the gaps between the edges of the dash panel and the window rubbers, right? So I'm thinking that the replacement is going to look terrible unless I can find a way to restore or replace these extensions. I've tried soaking them in Vinylex - no luck.
Any one faced/solved this problem???

Since the window rubber is black, maybe you could trim them off & glue some black vinyl in place of the blue. Maybe it would blend right in.

Good idea. Would need to find a miracle glue that would be SURE not to fail - extremes of temperature etc, and a real PITA if it were to fail. Might me tricky to get it looking good. Sounds like a trip to my local interior guy is coming up.....

steam, or a heat gun will soften vinyl. don't get too carried away with the heat gun as it'll melt or burn stuff. heat guns are good for removing depressions or dents from dash pads and mouldings.
