can't get fuel to engine

Hi All,

First post here, going to try not to sound like the noob that I am to all of this. Just picked up my first car, a '69 911T with a '74 CIS motor in it, expecting that it will be a journey of a project. I haven't gotten it started yet, and my main suspect is the fuel system.

So far I have:
Drained all of the gas out of the tank, cleaned the steel line that goes to the fuel pump as best I can (it flows well as far as I can tell), replaced the filter at the bottom of the gas tank, and replaced the fuel pump. My goal is to get the fuel to the back of the car where the engine is, and have some kind of confirmation that this is happening.

I've tried unplugging the line that goes into the pressure accumulator and putting it into a glass bottle while running the pump with no success.

I've tried unplugging the fuel return line and draining that into the glass bottle with no success.

My gas tank is now about 2/3 full when inspecting through the top, so I think there should be enough pressure to start the flow, but perhaps not. The fuel pump is certainly whirring when I turn the key, although the high pitch of the sound makes me suspect that it is pushing air and not fuel.

Is there an obvious thing that I am missing? Am I supposed to be priming the fuel pump and fuel line in some way that I haven't? Or is there probably just something stuck in the fuel line somewhere and I need to figure out where?

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Nick

Does your fuel pump run when you turn on the ign key? The 74 models with a rear pump were set up that way I believe. If it does, try to add a little pressure to the tank by holding a air hose in a rag at the fuel filler. See if the pump changes pitch and starts to pull fuel through the system.

Unless they have been changed, the wire connections to the pump are a different size so no mixup can or should take place.

????????????
