tearing engine down and found top row of head stud non magnetic/bottom row magnetic 793.0 sc engine normal?

That or you need to flip the engine 180 on the stand.

Your typo aside, upper studs were steel and lower studs were Dilavar when the engine was originally built.

I have the same thing in my 80 sc. One broken stud and its a non magnetic upper.

In my experience (from engines I worked with) dilavar is crap in 3.0 and above, steel doesn't cut it in a 3.6.
I have Supertec studs in my 3.2 and in my 3.6 (still in pieces).

Dilavar might work in a 2.7 and steel might work in 3.0-3.2 , no experience with that.
