Nice! That would be a great avenue to feature product information videos as well on the products you sell. Sort of like the guys on Revzilla.com (motorcycle accessories, etc)

Great tool. It is much better to see a video than try to make out sometimes poor pictures or diagrams.

Just watched the brake pad change one and I have one comment on that. The narration was in error. He said put a small amount of "anti-seize" on the pads. Anti-seize? It should be anti-squeal paste, which is what they showed. I noticed the error but novices at working on their cars for the first time might not and end up smearing the wrong stuff on the back of their pads.

Tell the narrator to move away from the microphone, or get a better mic. Cheers.

Air filter one was pretty good, nice and short and to the point, which is what DIY viewers want. I'll watch a few more and provide additional feedback if I have anything decent to add.

Fantastic marketing idea. I will seldom try something I am unfamiliar with for fear of screwing it up or making things worse, so this is excellent to impart confidence and sell the necessary parts

Mark,
Great idea!
I also own a 1969 MGB, and regulary look at the Moss Motors videos that they put out. They would be a good guide for you to base your video system on, as they have a lot of videos that just explain how things work, as well as how to do certain tasks.

MossTV - YouTube

I look forward to more videos for Porsches!

Mark...definately a move in the current technology direction.
People today expect step by step instructions for simple and sometimes tricky jobs...rather than them going to school to learn the entire profession.
I believe you are keeping up with the times in this idea....good job.

The only comment I have is that you show a Torx driver as the tool required and then in the video you're using a rachet, extension and Torx bit. A video like this is obviously directed toward a newbie so don't use tools that are not depicted in the introduction.
I think videos like this could be a great help to a lot of DIYr's.

I watched the brake pad change video. My thoughts:
- Production value looked good enough to be credible - this is YouTube, we're not expecting high-cost, studio production quality, but home-made shaky-cam videos won't do the job either, so this is a good balance;
- Hostess was perfectly fine, narrator was clear;
- The demonstration was very clear, lighting was good, instruction was clear and methodical;
- I suggest a parts list in addition to the tools list. Nothing worse than having to run back out for parts while in the middle of a job;
- Most Importantly -
- I suggest thorough inspection steps are needed, especially for brakes, such as checking the condition of the brake fluid, disc/rotor, caliper piston/boots, brake hose and fittings, bleeder, checking wheel bearings for play/noise and so forth. Changing out brake pads is one of those jobs during which checking for wear on critical parts is essential - an experienced wrench knows to do these things intuitively, while a noob might ignore signs of trouble.

I love the idea, I think the execution is good, and something like this could be a perfect compliment to the forums.

Good luck!
GK

How about identifying the parts with text (and some arrows or lines) when you are talking about them? For instance, on the brake pad change, the narrator talks about various parts as he is going through the process (like the caliper, the caliper mounting bracket, the pistons, etc.). He assumes that the viewer knows what each of those parts are. It might be nice for beginners to identify those parts with text in case they aren't familiar with all the parts and their names.

Great comments folks! As we develop this video tool, we'll certainly utilize many of the suggestions. Porsche content soon to come but feel free to provide any further comments as they arise!
