please verify tire size

I have my fuchs out for refinishing and ordered new tires today. The Tire Rack said to replace the old set 225 45 16 front and 245 45 16 rear, with 225 50 16 front and keep the 245 45 16 rear. The sales guy said that they would fit and said that it was "correct" for the car. I did not have any problems with the previous set, but tires are this guy's business, so I am assuming that he knows what he is talking about. Can someone verify that he is correct?

Thanks again guys!

225x50-16 is the "correct" front size, as long as they don't rub ("correct" meaning the closest in diameter to the actual stock size of 205x55-16). Some people use the 225x45 for a little extra clearance.

Bud,

What sizes are your Fuchs, 6 & 7? Also, what model is your car?

Not all mfr's 225/50-16 tires will fit without problems, as the original size was 205/55-16. You may be OK, but rubbing on the driver's side only is a distinct possibilityl You may want to consider 'rolling' your fender lips under. If you aren't familiar with the procedure, do a search on 'fender rolling procedure' ...
