Question Painting Fuchs Center Cap Black. What to use?

Ok I purchased 4 nice FUCHs wheels used. One of them is missing a center cap so I just ordered one from Pelican.

Problem is my center caps are black and 3-Prong seems as if Porsche never made Black 3-Prong caps. Sam @ Pelican said most people paint them with Krylon Flat Black.

Anyone here have experience with this matter? What paint did you use?

Thanks,
Dustin

You have the early style Fuchs. They came on 914/6s as well. Nothing wrong with them, just not very wide. They changed the cap style in the early 70s...

I have used black krylon and sprayed them all so that they would be a uniform color. They are a little easier to do if dismounted and w/o tires. Just take your time and mask them off and rough up the surface with emory cloth.

I like the powdercoating idea if you can get the right sheen. I wanted my fuchs to look original and experimented with spray cans, the results: semi-gloss= nice but too shiny; flat was real close; rustoleum satin black= perfect!

Thumbs up

I painted mine several years ago using a gloss paint. It turned out very good. I painted the center cap emblem by hand. About every two years I retouch it. Saves quite a bit over purchasing the painted center caps.

If you want the paint to match the rest of the factory black trim, get some Wurth "satin black trim" paint in a rattle can. This is what the factory used, and is high quality stuff. Just make sure you rough up the finish (Scotch-brite pad is perfect)before applying any coats. They also make all sorts of other top-notch quality "spray can" products. You can call them (800-346-4198) for a local distributor, or go to their website at: www.wurthwest.com

If you want to paint the center cap crests, get some paint markers at the local art store. I did mine and they look really good.
