Snappy 3rd - 4th / Short Shift

Hi All,

When I'm shifting my 915 the gear stick seems to 'snap' out of 3rd into 4th. Any ideas what this could be? needs adjustment? Re-build?:( could a short shift fix it?

It's OK through all the other gears, and yes it has had the 'swepco treatment'!

Cheers,

Tim.

If by "snap" you mean "pop" out of gear, that probably means your synchros are worn for 3rd and 4th gears. I had the same problem in mine with 2nd gear, and that was the culprit. Now, it wouldn't pop out of gear on its own for me, instead as I went to shift as soon as I touched that lever it would pop out of gear. It made it real tricky for shifting. Good luck.

Tim,
I'm not sure if you drive like some folks, that is, with your hand resting on the shift lever in *anticipation* of the shift......but, if you do, that may be why you are "snapping" through the gears.
I found it better not to touch the lever at all, until the clutch is fully depressed. I think this may also have something to do with how the coupler is set up.

The few times I've had this happen to me I'd like to think it was because a) I didn't have the clutch depressed completly and b) I was resting my hand on the shifter as Doug Z said "anticipating" the shift and moved too quickly.

Maybe in reality is it my synchro going but I'll chalk it up to my mistakes for now.

Does yours happen consistently or is it intermittent?
