I was driving back home from the airport yesterday, late afternoon, fog coming over the hills temps were cool. As I was driving I had the sunroof open, both windows as well, the wind was nice, I had Allman Brothers "At The Fillmore East" brewing nicely, Duane had the Coricidin bottle sliding like he was at the crossroads and the Devil was listening, rippin'!
As I was driving I noticed everyone was driving past me with their windows rolled up and nicely insulated from the outside world, I actually felt pity for them, safely cocooned in their indiscernible crapwagon SUVedanwagons thingys, missing the outside world going by, in insulated climate controlled comfort. A guy on a Harley went by and he looked over at the 911 with the windows open and then went back to staring straight ahead at the road.
I felt lucky to not be trapped in the same fashion, so was I wrong to feel sorry for those people?

My modern SUV beats me up when the windows are open.

Old cars on purpose or by chance were designed to be driven with the windows open.

I think you have hit on a metaphore for modern life...

Just think, those same people probably pity you for being stuck in a vehicle that is loud, smelly and hot! :D

I used to think that other people were missing something. The older I get, the more I realize that it's better when the masses don't know about the little gems of life like this. Now I understand why people closely guard their favorite fishing spots. Those poor saps are also the ones likely to ruin it for the rest of us. :)

I like the windows down, too. I can't hear the radio so it's off. Puts you into the present doesn't it.

I got severely made fun of in another thread for driving a Targa.......but based on your post, you do seen to "get it".

Hwy 280, cruising at 75MPH, unless I can fly with the pedal on the floor, the ticket chance isn't worth it. But once I got off onto Sandhill Rd different story, pedal was down gears were being stirred, locals were scared and the pavement was abused. This last set of tires lasted 5K miles, do the math. There is a time and place for dropping the hammer, and an interstate full of idiots, in minivans isn't one of them. I regularly get passed by many cars, guess which one is the most numerous, Toyota Rav 4s, any buttwipe can go fast on an interstate that was modeled after the Autobahn, for this there is proof. Too bad the CHP didn't get the memo.

On the bike...everything happens RIGHT NOW!
In a car...all temp changes are delayed....on the bike you can experience a 10deg change for only 50 feet....then it gets back to normal.
Riding down a road with a stand of trees on each side....at night...it gets warmer in the tree area...in the day it gets cooler.
Drive like you will never drive again...ever.

I test drove my latest suspension adjustment last nite on the new 202 here in montco/bucks county at 10:00PM last night. I could've driven for an hour, top off, stars out, heat of the day gone, engine purring, everyone getting ready for work the next day and off the road - so nice. (can't recall if the radio was even on).

Funny you mention that. I noticed the same thing last week. Out of a sample of over 50 cars I only noticed one with the windows down!

I have a 94 CB1000 Big One, wildly unpopular in a world of super bikes and hogs, I just like the ground in the middle, the Japanese naked bike was the inspiration. Bought new, I have had a street bike for 40 years, and dirt bikes even longer. So yes I am familiar with all you say!

Its 95 degrees here right now. it rains just just enough in the early afternoons to make it feel hotter than Africa. Whenever I drive by people with their windows down I feel bad for them because I know they are probably tied to the whipping post without a functioning AC.
