hi. SmileWavy

i'm about to pull the trigger on a 3.6l conversion kit from instant-g for my 87 911. any recommendations on some of the available options? if you've done it before, what would you get again? what would you not get?

Yes; put it in a different car!! That '87 is worth it's weight in gold if it's stock....dump the 3.6 in a middie or an SC.

Phil,
send me your experiences too please. I am on a bath with no returns and would like to get some ideas.

Shawn,

I thought you were going throttle bodies with your 3.2 ?

Cheers

Part of what you get when you buy from Instant_G is Steve Timmons' customer service advice. Everyone I know who's used his conversion parts have been happy. I have his 3.6 conversion parts on the shelf for when I drop the 3.6 into my '86, and I used his conversion pieces to put the 996TT brakes on the car. I've known Steve for 20+ years and he's a good guy.

That must be one hell of a cleaning ritual.

As a data point, Rothsport makes a machined piece that allows you to keep your stock throttle linkage right up to the small console on top of the block. From there a short custom linkage rod to the throttle body. I have a Patrick cable now, but will go back to the throttle rod during winter maintenance. The throttle cable is an ass pain to disconnect when dropping the engine. You will also want to add a return spring at the throttle pedal under the floor board for a better pedal return. The spring on the throttle body does not really snap the pedal back to rest.

+1 on Steve T, very helpful.

I was surprised that my cooling system was not adequate: carrera fender + setrab 6 x 22"

Set up worked great with a 3.2 at 100F ambient, but not the 3.6.

I changed the 6" to an 11 x 18 setrab and temps did not get above 210 on the track.
