perma-tune + pertronix ignitor + pertronix flamethrower = ??

Hi,

1971 911T

Q1
Has anyone done this:
Pertronix ignitor + pertronix 3ohm flamethrower , and DELETE the permatune or CDI? I don't want permatune unless absolutely necessary - rev limited not needed. Else, what is the correct cdi/msi/etc module to use with flamethrower?

Q2
Is the starter switch wire that goes to the coil a - or +? On mine, it's a -. Maybe this was done for the permatune module? And even goofier, this - wire was hooked into the + on the stock coil. And the car ran. Is that normal?

Q3
Each spark plug wire is encased by a mesh casing that is grounded to the car. Seen that?

Arrrrrgggggggggg
Figuring out 30 yrs of someone else's mechanical decisions.

1. Yes. The pertronix ignitor is a high-amperage switch mated to a hall sensor. The coil is charged, and the switch passes about seven amps, way more than points. When the magnet passes in front of the sensor the switch contacts are broken, just like points, and the coil fires. This is why you can use a lower primary resistance coil than the original-- because of the higher amperage rating of the switch. Remove everything else, it's not only not necessary, but probably not as good-- inductive ignition has a better spark duration than CDI.

2. Can't help figure out the work of prior owners if it doesn't match the wire diagram. Photos might help but if it's hacked, you're a test pilot, sorry.

3. This was a standard feature of the CIS cars, steel braid on the outside of the wires for EMI protection, for better radio reception and German VDE compliance. Some thought it reduced the rate of blown airboxes, not really true.

Hope this helps! Good luck!
