Brand new 911 -- what should I do first?
I just picked up a 86 911 w/ 55K miles on it. The car is almost stock save for aftermarket speakers. I'd like to start making some subtle aesthetic and performance upgrades. What do you think i should do first?

1. Add a front spoiler, keep the tail.
2. Join PCA. Check out some of their events, autocross, meet people, and check out lots of other cars 3. Make sure you have an owners manual, they have lots of good info about your car. If you are handy with a wrench, get Wayne's 101 projects for your 911. 4. Stay logged in to Pelican's BBS. 5. Drive your car.

I have an '84 with similar mileage that I bought last year.
I'd start with new tires and then find a local DE so you can learn to manage the pendulum. |

Congrats! Looks great.
I would start by changing worn parts, like dampers and such. Makes a big difference driving.

Drive it! Go to an Autocross and drivers Ed to learn about you car at it's limits. Wait 6-12 months before contemplating mods.

Keep the tail, don't backdate, you will ruin the value. Just drive it and keep it original. No matter what you do to the motor it still will not be as fast as the Subaru WRX and the newer mustangs out there. They have hundreds of more Horse Power!

Check the fuel lines immediately!!
The ones in the engine compartment which are hard to see. The one in the back is the bmost critical search 80s Fuel lines here on pelican! "3.2 Fuel lines" disaster waitiong to happen if not checked .
add a steve wong chip and a sport muffler and you are good to go!! never forget that feeling the first pcar!! enjoy the gradual slope before it becomes black diamond!! Frank |

If you have a tail you need a chin spoiler, not for aesthetics but for proper adhesion. Porsche wouldn't sell a car with just one and not the other so the seller probably removed the chin spoiler because of road rash. Check the bottom of the front valance for screw holes.
I'd suggest you just drive it awhile, 6 months or so, and then decide about 'changes'...get's spendy when you jump in and just start 'remodeling'...let the car grow on you a bit first. Just change out any worn out items, bushings etc and have fun. |

do NOT do any "upgrades" yet
1st - Critical Safety Issues when buying a 911 2nd - get it back on its long term maint. schedule 3rd - save a few thousand for major repairs only then should you do upgrades & that will give you time with the car as per above posts |

Yup, got to fix that stuff! That red car looks like it is falling apart and was not cared for at all.

I just boght the 87' version, so welcome to the brotherhood as it was put to me. Mine is the same Guards Red as evil and hated as it to so many. My redhead is a bit long in the tooth with faded paint but she rolls so sweetly down my favorite Ducati and Triumph roads. Its as close to a bike as I can get it seems lately.
