Question 911 Air conditioning..Am I kidding myself?

I have a 1979 911 SC with
Euro Cams, Mahle Pistons, SS SSI & Bursch SS Duel Muffler. Am I kidding myself thinking that the A/C will cool the car down on a 90 degree day? On any day for that matter?????

Thoughts?

Contrary to popular belief, I think that the 911 a/c can be made to work well. There are a lot of upgrades that can be made and those can get pretty expensive for something most people say to just get rid of. My system is factory except for a bulkhead vent. I don't know what year your car is but the biggest problem I had with mine was the switches. Once I replaced them and made sure the system was fully charged (still using R-12) it worked well. Now mind you, "well" is always relative. On a 100-degree day, I will put the top on a roll up the windows because the a/c is much cooler. It may not get there real quick but after about ten minutes I am riding in a pretty cool, not cold, car. The cooler the outside temp, the cooler my inside temp can get, obviously.
Jack O just had his a/c done and he was really happy with it. Here's the thread.

Well, a year ago this friday (i looked at the receipt) I had the freon loaded with 3.25 LBS @ $85.00 a Lb. and it's hit around 100 degrees here recently and let me tell you it's not comfortable....As a matter o fact, the guy who charged it told me that it is a lost cause....

Sweating Profusly at 100 degrees and 100 MPH, But still smiling!

Who needs a/c in a p-car when there's plenty in the lobby?

My 73"S" has factory air and after replacing all of the hoses and recharging it, I am very happy with the cooling power of the system. Part of the problem is the amount of hose in length and the number of crimps that leak after time passes. Still, at 90 degrees, my cabin is very comfortable.

Marc, I notice you are in NY. Can you recommend someone reliable to take care of my A/C problem? Aprox how much did this cost you?
Thanks
Alex
