Here are some stills that I've lifted from my MiniDV camera. Thanks to Co-pilot, Matt Holcomb for weilding it during the day.
It was a fantastic morning event, thanks again to Victor for arranging it. It started off dark and rainy, but fined up in the later morning. Here's what we saw a lot of... ![]() Our first stop, sometime around 5:30am, for a quick restroom visit. That's Sean Hamilton's lovely SC in the foreground. ![]() On arrival, we all admired each other's cars for a while, then organized breakfast! ![]() Merv (WydRyd) taking some of the many stills on the trip ![]() After we ate, we were back on the road. Matt's riding with Paul W in his amazing '69 911T, following my 2.7. ![]() A shot of my car, during Paul W's fly-by! ![]() And finally, heading home along the Great Ocean Road ![]()

So Merv, have you got the GTech running yet? I want to know how fast you go from 80KM/h to 2,000,000 as per the "fly by" before the first p!ss stop. Awesome, and you have got me thinking. I wonder if that intercooler could hide under a ducktail?
Note to others: Merv does not need much encouragement to go from sedate sit-in-line and behave convoy participant to outright canyon jumping rocket propelled adrenalin fuelled suicide machine.

Flick back to the pic under Merv's BBQ.......
Yeah, that's Brett reviewing the in-car video he recorded of the entire trip - he paused there, contemplating the fox he should've pancaked and the $10.00 bounty he missed. ![]() And that's Victor, about to chunder on his ginger bread - Matt waiting in anticipation. ![]() Hey Vic - hope you didn't eat the "whole" ginger bread man..... you didn't, Merv's appendage?:eek Merv - It was really great to meet you and WydRyd in person, at last... tho' I didn't see much of that beast of yours. Absolutely Bloody Awesome. WooooooOOOssssshhhh!!! WOW!!! No wonder you like spankin' Wrex's - It's no bloody contest. Home by 10'30 eh? took it easy without us to show off to huh? Brett and Paul - great to meet you two too. Stunning Porsches, at both ends of the marque spectrum. Paul.... leave it alone! Add the Fuchs, new sticky feet and be done with it. Matt and Adam - again, terrific company..... rear end Charlies phoned up ahead to me, to point out that I was driving with my rear deck lid slowly going erect..... ![]() Yup, that noise?....... It's the alternator bearings shot. Bummer. She's off the road now..... I was lucky to get home. As for your new noise Adam - that Monty sounds great! Victor - yours sounds bloody rude! Fair dinkum! Thanks for a great day, mate. Terrific, and a lot fun. Just gotta wait patiently now for next weeks mail to see if Mr Plod is sending me an invoice. Two hours sleep - can I claim an "in motion" power nap. Lookin' forward to the next one. Can we handicap Merv.... by about 3 hours! ![]() Hmmm, those pastry bangers are still repeating on me....... gotta go..... ![]()

He told me to punch it, so I just HAD to oblige ![]() ![]() No G-Tech measurements yet Vic, but you're welcome to test it out for yourself. I would have liked to take each one of you guys for a quick blast, however, I don't think the locals would have appreciated some hoon rocketing up'n'down ApolloBay ![]() Vic, 'Mike the mechanic' has a narrow body Carrera and has the exact same setup as mine. He's not using a turbo-tail but a tail that looks very similar to the stock Carrera unit. Have another look at his MPG video. I think it's an RS-America tail. Brett, I love that in-car camera mate. I'm seriously thinking of getting one of those, so I'd like some details from you if you don't mind ![]() Adam, that new Monty does sound sweet. I'm now thinking of ordering either a straight thru turbo dump pipe OR a GUTTED dual-tip Monty specifically for these drive days & track events (when I eventually do the DE and obtain my CAMs). P.S: This morning at an intersection, this guy (pedestrian) was eyeing-off WydRyd, walks over and asked me if I'd consider selling my car to him! Hmmmm ??? C4S, here I come! LOL! CamB, IMO, Matt Holcomb actually looks like the detective dude in 'Gone in 60 Seconds'. What's his name? Timothy Olyphant or somethin? Also starred in 'First Wives Club & Scream 2 I believe.
Cool, we have a celeb amongst us ![]() |

Whoops too fast with the trigger finger.
Merv, camera setup is a 3ccd Sony head unit into DVCam deck. It was great becasue I could adjust the zoom as we were going - I'll get the tape to Matt & Adam so that they can post it. Stunning car btw!! Great fun and I too was home by 10.30am - but maybe next time we'll leave at least a little later? Cheers Brett |

Brett: Feel free to send me you Mr. Plod happy snaps. It will give me something to laugh at.
Everyone: Thanks for coming along, let's start talking about the next one. Maybe we should do a Pelican poll? I'm thinking important issues like: Departure time Route Breakfast / lunch arrangements Inclusion of non Porsche hangers on Merv, good tip about Gingerbread Merv's privates - I telephoned home and had the missus surgically remove the whole area.

Victor,
I enjoyed the early start, because we owned the roads! The only bad thing is that anyone who saw us flying in formation, knew that the 8 or 9 Porsches, cruising at attack speed, at 5am were definitely up to no good. ![]() Maybe if we incorporate a few ringers and book a nice place for a sit-down luncheon, that would be fun.

Guys,
Here's a selection from the (average) images I took. The pre-dawn dash felt like a blur, but I'm not sure whether that's because these cars cover a lot of ground quickly, or because I was a little out of it. Anyway. Victoria's Great Ocean Road is as spectacular -- and as precarious -- as parts of California's Highway 1. Driving it along during the pre-dawn hours is, in my opinion, the best way to experience it as the first rays of sunlight lend an ethereal quality to the oceanic vistas. I'm sure there were whale spouts to be seen, but even with Adam driving at 7/10ths, I didn't have a chance to spot them! Well, here's my selection of images. Enjoy! Merv holding the prize for the widest grin! No pun intended! ![]() More smiles, and I wonder why! ![]() Ah! The armada! ![]() Merv's mythologized -- and wide -- ride! This car is simply otherworldly. ![]() Inside the beast. ![]() Here's Paul Wischer's mobile monument to the genius of Butzi Porsche. I had the pleasure of riding in this purposeful -- and characterful -- car for a kick-ass 30km stint. Thanks, Paul! ![]() Inside Paul's car. ![]() Paul's engine -- as beautiful as the car. ![]() Brett, ready for take-off. ![]() Well, that's it from me. Stay tuned for the video clip(s) of the pre-dawn dash! Oh, and Cam, are you talking about a possible resemblance to Johnny Knoxville? ![]() Yep, kinda. The real test is if you felt the urge to hold your head down by Merv's exhaust pipe while he revved the engine, waiting for it to spit flames and burn off all your hair.... (I would usually use the American "tail pipe" in that sentence, howver, I thought better in this instance).

OK, OK - Enough Gingerbread Merv jokes - LOL
![]() BTW, thanks for the camera details Brett. What about the stand? Is that a custom unit? I'm wondering whether I can use my JVC digi-cam for such a setup? Agree with Adam. Maybe the next one could include a sit down luncheon in Lorne or wherever we may go next? Maybe cruise to Redcliffe and then catch a Ferry across the bay and get onto the GOR that way? Just a thought ![]() I actually thought that was going to be the plan on the way home? Stop in Lorne for lunch? Matt, what a great description of the G.O.R! You should be a freelance writer for Wheels magazine or somethin ![]() BTW, who was the couple in the 944t? I didn't catch their names. |

Merv,
it's a custom job. I was lucky enough to be involved in filming a television show for V8Supercar, my car was used as a camera/chase car. The rig was built to carry a DigiBetacam (think way big) so the JVC will be no prob. Sound is critical so I would recommend a shotgun mike for the JVC and aim it towards the rear of the car. You (and any other local Pelicans) are welcome to use it. It's got 3 legs, the rear 2 bolt into the rear seat belt mounts and the 3rd (adjustable) leg stands in the end on the centre console. Brett |
