Porsche Part number for tool kit?
 

Does anyone know what the Porsche part number for the 1976 Carrera 2.7mfi Tool Kit is? I know they don't make them any more but I would like to know because there might be someone who has an original still in plastic, so I need to confirm it is the right one.
How many pieces are there in the kit?
My car is a 1976 2.7 mfi ROW.

someone is making those tool kits again. He also has written a book on servicing the MFI maybe someone knows who it is.
Do you mean the normal tool bag or specialized tools for MFI?

I have to ask.. What distinguishes this tool kit 911 721 002 01 from any other 1976 911 tool kit? I don't see any tools specific to MFI.

They only built ..what?.. 126 of these to finish out the run of MFI cars and I question that there is a special tool kit for them.

Just the normal kit that came with the vehicle when it was originally purchased.

Michael Burgess wrote an extensive DIY MFI booklet series. You got me looking, but I see nothing on tool kits.. at least not by him. FYI

The tool roll for 1976 Carrera 2.7 is light gray instead of black, with gray snaps, and like the 74-75 it should be the basketweave style. Interior should be darker gray rather than the lighter white you sometimes see. Note, these details on the 1976 tool roll is SPECIFIC to those Porsche built during the last few months of the 1976 model year. This includes ALL of the Carrera 2.7 along with some subset of the Carrera 3.0, 911, and other model production. However, the tool roll likely changed at least once during the year and the earlier black style may have still been used early in the 1976 model year, so the correct one for a Carrera 3.0 might be different depending on the build date of the car.

The tools are basically the same as 74-75, including an Optibelt fan belt, P208 pulley wrench, five wrenches (marked "SPECIAL-SELECTED-STEEL" and possibly one or two with a newer style "DIN 895", the "DROP FORGED STEEL" appears to have been phased out by 1976), yellow screwdriver handle, etc

That number is for the 1977 model and mine is a 1976.

Actually, I made a mistake, 911-721-002-01 is the number for the 1975 and earlier cars.

911-721-002-04 is the correct number for 1976 and 1977.

Strangely the correct 1976 Carrera 2.7 gray tool roll should also have the two draw strings holes punched (though unused).

I suspect the 04 version is the toolkit for CIS equipped cars with the revised alternator fan tool. Further, I suspect 911-721-002-01 was the part number for all cars with MFI *even* the rare 1976 Carrera 2.7 model. If you wanted to buy a toolkit that was missing in your earlier 911 with MFI the 01 was the correct one...and it would still come in gray basketweave since nobody cared then about "correctness" just functionality. Unfortunately the sticker on my gray toolkit fell off in the past so I can't read the part number.

Oliver, your choices are:

a) Get the early 01 toolkit for MFI cars, and then find the correct gray bag and swap the bags.

b) Buy the correct 1976 replacement gray toolkit and then insert the correct alternator tool.

Personally I would focus on "a" as it will probably be the easier path to find a kit. I can help you find the gray bag if you have the rest...I may have a spare 1977 version (without the drawstring holes, which you could add, and the interior is slightly different shade).

The correct gray NOS kit I bought wasn't complete...as it was a replacement for earlier MFI cars (presumably 1973 and earlier in the US) it didn't come with the IB tow hook. I had to add that to the kit.
