VIN information on 68 911
I just bought a 68 911 with VIN number 11835095. I was trying to decode to vin to see if it was just a regular 911 or not. It did not come with a drivetrain so it is hard to tell. Any info would be great. Thank you.

From my reference book that is a 911 Karmann Coupe.(Body made by Karmann-Porsche did not have the capacity to build all its bodies). Engine was the 901/06 developing 130HP. Of course with no drive train you can put any engine you want in it. All it takes is $$$$$.

68 karmann built body number 5095 911L for US sale, so it had the smog pump. You can get a Certificate from Porsche to find out original engine number paint options etc. then check here and on rennlist and early 911s registry to maybe find the original engine.

Your car is a regular 911. Porsche imported two 911 models in 1968, the 911 and the 911L. There were only 1215 911 Coupes (vs 911Ls). Of these 1215, only 742 were built by Karmann
