I'm in a jam with a power window.

Guys, I've got my passenger side power window that will roll down but not up. Of course right now it's completely down. I've disassembled the panel and right now I'm trying to simply bring the window up manually somehow until I've got time to dig into an actual diagnosis and repair.

I doesn't seem to be electrical as I can hear the motor attempt to bring the window up every now and then when I try the switch but it doesn't move at all. So I'm hoping that I can loosen the right bolts and slide the window up. The Bentley manual is so vague on the "how to" and it basically says to loose the adjustment screws and the four regulator screws and lift the window up but this thing is not budging.

What i read from your post is the motor has contact with switch down but not up ... Have you tried removing the switch and cleaning the contacts?

See if the window is on its tracks and check the window lifter.

The window probably hung on the track going down and the lift/lower assembly became disconnected from the window but still continued to move down.

The window is probably wedged between the lift and the outer door skin. Do not try to raise the window with the switch. You should be able to see the lift and the bottom of the window through the holes in your door.

Pull in on the lift with your hand and you should be able to pull the window free/up with your other hand. At least, that's what normally happens. Just take your time and watch your fingers.

Thanks guys... stepped away, came back with a clear mind and I was able to get it up and get the regulator out. Yeah, watch the fingers part indeed!

Tomorrow I'll play around with diagnosing what's wrong. Everything looked good on the tracks, nothing wedged, and like I said I could "hear" the motor attempt to roll up the window.

I'll wire up something tomorrow to test that the motor works in both up and down directions now that I have it out, and if it does then I'll begin troubleshooting the actual switch and wiring.

Wife's 993 had the same issue with PS window.

I cleaned all contacts and sprayed QD cleaner into the window switch. That helped some. Still intermittent operation though.

I ended up swapping the window switch from the PS and DS windows to double check switch function.

The other switch worked perfectly.
I ended up replacing the faulty switch.

Use only the Genuine Porsche switches!
