pre 1974 Fuel tank fits 1986 carrera?

thinking about changing the fuel tank to accomodate the old style spare wheel.
Will the fuel tank for 911's up to 1973 also fits the impact bumper cars?
Thanks for your Help

Regards
Hans

^^ Bump.

Wondered about this myself; am curious to know, too. My assumption is that the size/shape/mounting points are the same but fittings will be different . . . anyone know for sure?

f the earlier tanks will physically bolt in, but a) fittings are different b) smaller 17 gallon capacity (accepts a full size 15" spare) c) if not a super rare 73.5 cis style tank, you will starve the fuel pump (thereby shortening its life span) under harder cornering with below half a tank or less

conclusion? get the right tank

I have a 73 1/2 CIS tank in very good shape if you are interested, 17 gallons or so, swirl pot intact to protect your fuel pump. Swapped it out for a larger tank, since my motor consumes a LOT of fuel
