Synthetic oil what multi-grade
My engine is a 1970 2.2L with 2.7L P&C. I live on the Big Island with 75F to 90F year round. Every drive is up hill and down hill. What multi-grade synthetic oil do I use?

Use either a 15w-40, 15w-50 or a 20w-50. Make sure it contains sufficient ZDDP to protect the engine.

+1 15-50 Mobil 1, thats what I've used in Texas for 35 years. In the heat there is nothing like a synthetic. Mobil 1 has plenty of ZDDP in 15-50

A good question and an important one when owning one of our P cars, its just been a reoccurring theme adtnauseium that had sparked debate in the past. I haven't been a PP member long so it’s not an annoyance to me just yet but for those posters and readers who have been here a while, (many years) they say," aw jeezzz," to the topic. And they will be saying, "Aw jeez..," more down the road I believe as these special cars become more and more attractive to people and because OIL is the life sustaining blood for our motors. So read the wise posts here from members, find a good one, and use it.

Since the question is about what weight to use, that should avoid the flaming subject of dino vs syn.
I agree with the mentioned weights, but you can look at your owner's manual and it will tell you what weight to use, based on anticipated outside temps. The viscosity/weight is regardless of whether it's dino or synthetic. For the suggested weights, I think only 15W-40 and 15W-50 is available in synthetic.

i doubt M1 has significant amounts of ZDDP compared to VR1 Racing or Brad Penn 20W50. Racing . I seem to have heard ( although it may anecdotal) is the only way they can get high levels of the cat killer ZDDP back in oils is to skirt the rules and call it racing oil.
it sure isnt M1 15w 50 racing oil ... M1 has a HUGE marketing budget but at the end of the day id say stick to brad penn if you can get it out there.

Mobil 1 15w-50 is marketed as racing oil. The ZDDP levels are published. I posted the link the other day. Not sure off hand how the ZDDP levels compare to Brad Penn or VR-1. If they publish the data then it would be easy enough to compare.
