Question Hub/Bearing Extractor and Installer Kit

My '73 need to replace rear bearings. I got the quotes of $460 and $800+parts. from two different porsche dealers; one said little less than a couple hours per wheel, and the other said minimum of 4 hrs job per wheel. Now I found the kit at the Pelicanparts tool section.

http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/ptoo/por_ptoo_miscel_main.htm

I've done fronts by myself. I was little afraid that the rear seems little difficult by reading other posts here. Now using this tool, how much the job becomes less difficult?

Wayne, is there instructions inside? And which one of PEL-TOL-SIRB90-P1 or PEL-TOL-SIRB90-P2 am I suppose to buy? Both has '73.

Regards,

I have a tool similar to the one you're considering buying. Mine does not pull the hub though. The hubs have to be smacked out with a drift. In my case, I couldn't remove the old hub using that method. I am forced to remove the trailing arm to get more leverage. And of course you can't get to the bolts holding on the trailing arm without removing the tranny. And of course you can't remove the tranny without removing the engine! Can you say snowball!

If this tool can pull the hub too it should be worth it's weight in gold. Especially after what I am going through!

Check out a previous post by rcilurso titled, "rear wheel bearing replacement (long)." Definitely worth printing out.

Good luck!
BK

That post made me to call porsche dealers to do the job. With this tool, it seems that I can do the job. .. I wonder? Isn't there anybody who bought / used one?

I have the lesser version that PP sells. I used it twice. Works pretty good. And yes, mine came with instructions.
